Ysrael A. Seinuk, P.C. on behalf of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey performed a cyclical survey of Hangar 1, 3, and 5, buildings 5A, 5B, 5C and 19 at LaGuardia in Queens, NY. The purpose of the inspection was to assess the overall condition of the structures, to identify the structural and non-structural deficiencies and to document and report safety issues observed during the inspection.
During the inspection of Hangar 3 and 5, we found 3 deteriorated areas that required immediate action. One area was located at Hangar 3 and the other two areas were located in Hangar 5. The deterioration consisted of two loose, cracked and spalled gypsum planks that were located at the underside of the roof of the Hangars.
Two additional areas also required immediate action were found at Hangar 1 and 3. 2.5 ton lifting hoists were found mounted to the existing walls. These hoists are not part of the original design of the hangars. One hoist is located in hangar 1 and the other in hangar 3. In analyzing the existing wall, it was determined that the wall is structurally inadequate to carry the hoists working loads.
