YAS provided structural engineering services for the renovation of the existing 45,000sf Charles Evans Inniss Memorial Library and the addition of a new 2,000sf Welcome Center which also provided swing space during the library renovation. This $18 million modernization will increase overall useable library space and use of natural light throughout the space; expand seating by nearly 40 percent; add more group study rooms and double the number of technology work stations.

The library renovation included structural modifications, a new sculptural staircase linking the three levels, new elevator, refinishing the existing structural space frame, exposing & refinishing existing columns, addition of glass rails and new ceilings. The Welcome Center addition is located adjacent to the main building entrance along Bedford Avenue, and consists of a new glass and concrete structure, concrete ceiling, full height electronic media display, terrazzo floor and bamboo clad entry portal.

YAS also recently provided structural engineering services for the removal and replacement of three (3) passenger hydraulic elevators in the Bedford Building, due to the elevators being in poor condition and frequently breaking down. Work included cutting and filling existing hoistway ventilation slab opening and design new structural beam at new slab opening.
