A series of 12 new film production studios and associated support spaces have been built at the Brooklyn Navy Yards. Each studio is roughly 92 feet by 175 feet. The structures are supported on either timber piles or concrete filled steel pipe piles, with a frame concrete slab on grade, precast concrete walls and mezzanine slabs, and steel joists with concrete slab on metal deck roof construction. YAS is responsible for design of foundation system, framed slab on grade, lateral analysis, for selecting proper precast wall and plank sizes, and for laying out size and spacing of roof joists. We worked closely with the Client and Architect to complete all trade coordination during design phase, which minimized questions and RFI’s to a very minimum during construction. Stages 10-15 finished construction in record time and was able to go into movie production right away and Kent Stages 25-30 are currently in construction.
