The Studebaker building, which was constructed in 1923 as a state-of-the-art Studebaker automobile finishing facility, was renovated for adaptive reuse as administrative offices for Columbia University.
Structural services included removal of existing inter-story ramps, new framing for closing off the floor openings, the addition of new stairs between the 1st and 3rd floors and two new elevators, including framing for new elevator shafts. New ADA compliant ramp from street to the building’s basement was added. Dunnage framing was added to the roof for a new cooling tower and generator equipment. YAS also performed a condition survey on the existing structure and façade and documented all the deficiencies in a report and in drawing form.
