The new 3-story addition consolidated space for vivaria, originally was dispersed throughout the science complex. This addition, on top of the existing plaza structure, consists of a structural steel frame with metal deck and concrete floor system with moment frames designed for wind and seismic forces. The exterior consist of a metal panel system, curtain wall and masonry wall with steel studs back-up.

This was the first research project fully designed and documented using Building Information Modeling (BIM) for the State University of New York. Through the use of BIM, YAS and the design team was able to resolve any complications created by low floor-to-floor heights in the existing buildings and verify all building systems were coordinated properly.
